Music In The Park This Sunday

It is that time of the month again !!! Music In the Park. This Sunday from 6pm – til 8pm we have THE ATKINSONS !!! Freshly back from Floyd Fest and regulars at Ashland Coffee and Tea, and other nice venues around tow, this Roots Rock/ Americana ensemble from Richmond is sure to please. Blended male/female vocals and harmonies and just enough twang to make you bring your cowboy boots and hat, The Atkinsons deliver the goods.

As always bring five friends and a picnic basket to Forest Hill Park this Sunday, the 15th from 6 to 8pm. Music in the Park is sponsored by YOUR local neighborhood associations including Forest Hill, Westover Hills, & Woodland Heights.

Capoeira Resistencia this Sunday at FH Park

Music in the Park this Sunday from 6pm – 8pm (after Sunday in the Park with Friends ) goes Brazilian with the group Capoeira Resistencia !!!

Capoeira  (Portuguese pronunciation: [ka?pwej??]) is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, music, and dance. It was created in Brazil by slaves from Africa, sometime after the sixteenth century. Participants form a roda, or circle, and take turns either playing musical instruments (such as the Berimbau), singing, or ritually sparring in pairs in the center of the circle. (source: wikipedia)

Capoeira Resistencia consist of a Brazilian percussion ensemble and will have a full dance troupe as well. This should be fascinating for grownups and kids too.

As usual, bring four friends and a picnic. Music in Forest Hill Park is sponsored by the Forest Hill, Westover Hills and Woodland Heights Neighborhood Associations, City of Richmond Parks and Recreation, and a wonderful handful of local businesses.

Payback Gets Forest Hill Park Jumping

It was a beautiful, cool evening Sunday night when a large crowd headed to the park to watch Payback, a James Brown tribute band. The kids started dancing early but by the end there was a rare crowd of adults dancing with abandon. It’s hard NOT to shake your groove thang with such great music.

Last Music in the Park of the Year

You know summer is over when the music dies. This Sunday is the last in the Music in the Park series at Forest Hill Park. The series wraps up with  The Big Payback a James Brown tribute band. Hit the previous link to sample their music, sounds like a party waiting to happen.

The music starts at 5 and wraps up around 7. This is an earlier start time then shows during the summer months and I noticed last show that quite a few people showed up late.

The series is brought to you by the Westover Hills, Forest Hill, and Woodland Heights Neighborhood Associations, and the City of Richmond. All the groups playing have at least one member who lives in the neighborhood. The following businesses also have contributed to Music in the Park: Cielito Lindo, Dominion Heating and Air Conditioning, Crossroads Coffee, 43rd Street Gallery, True Timber, and Riverside Outfitters.

Music in the Park Sunday

Only three concerts are left at Forest Hill Park as part of the Music in the Park series. This Sunday will feature Blue Line Highway. I didn’t realize it until I read it on the Westover Hills Neighborhood Association website that with all the bands in the series that at least one member is a resident. Music starts at 6 and goes until 8 and is free due to the hard work and donations of the Westover Hills, Forest Hill, and Woodland Heights Neighborhood Associations, and the City of Richmond.
