Huguenot Bridge Closed Friday-Monday
Phase 1 of the city’s plan to isolate the Southbank goes into effect on Friday with the closing of the Huguenot Bridge for “inspection”. The bridge will be closed Friday at 7:30 a.m. and not re-open until late Monday night, or Tuesday morning. If the other bridges are suddenly shut down for “accidents” or “security reasons” or some other such nonsense then I’ll be truly worried. Drowning Near Hugeunot Bridge
From RTD: A swift-water rescue team recovered the body of a 36-year-old man in the James River just south of the Hugeunot Bridge this evening after he fell while trying to jump off a rope swing, authorities said.At about 5:35 p.m. a witness called 911 after the man fell into the river, emerged, went back down and did not re-emerge. His body was found in the vicinity of the rope swing.

Small Brush Fire near Huguenot Bridge
Two juveniles were taken into custody this morning after they allegedly set a small brush fire near the south end of the Huguenot Bridge.
The fire, reported shortly after 7 a.m., was quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
Fire crews from Richmond and Henrico County responded to the area, as did Richmond police.

It’s pothole repair time again, which means the Huguenot Bridge is closed this Sunday, 6AM-6PM.

Huguenot Bridge spared in transportation cuts
VDOT is dropping many road & transportation projects over the next few years (38+ in the Richmond area alone), but the silver lining is that the new Huguenot Bridge will go ahead as planned. Hearings are scheduled to discuss the new plan, with the Richmond meeting coming April 23 @ VDOT HQ downtown.

We’ve received a couple of reports that there’s a person threatening to jump off the city side of the Huguenot Bridge, and that RPD water rescue is involved…

New Huguenot Bridge on the fast track?
Today’s T-D is reporting that the Huguenot Bridge replacement project will be moved up and could open a year sooner than originally announced. A public hearing willl be held Nov. 13, 4:30-7:30 PM at Bon Air Elementary School, just across the city-Chesterfield line.
