Zipping Across Belle

Belle Isle Bridge circa 1972 by Vintage Richmond

Belle Isle is such a natural oasis now that it is easy to forget the industry on the island as recently as the 70′s. This latest photo from Vintage Richmond really highlights the change from industry to greenery and dovetails nicely with this Belle Isle photo from 1965. Great work as always from Vintage Richmond.

Another great image by Vintage Richmond. Crazy to see all the industry there. For a small piece of land that island has an amazing past.

Answer to Police Activity on Belle Isle Memorial Day

I read several Tweets and received a couple questions about a bunch (as many as 10 from one report) police cars heading to Belle Isle. Since it happened on the River I knew Phil of James River News Hub would eventually find out the details. The abbreviated version of Phil’s post, is that during or after a river rescue [...]

River Rescue at Belle Isle – Riding the Pine

The video is a raw footage of the rescue. The man in need of rescue had decided it would be a good idea to ride a tree (no word on what type of tree) down the James. Yes, ride a tree down the James as an added bit of intelligence he didn’t see the need [...]

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that the bridge to Belle Isle used by fire, emergency and park vehicles has reopened after only 30 days rather than the 75 days originally estimated. Here, here! We might complain bitterly when things take longer than expected so we should definitely be pleased when things happen more quickly!
