Teen Shot in Manchester

From RTD¬†we get word of a shooting last night near Croaker’s Spot in Manchester.

A 16-year-old male was shot multiple times by another teen Saturday night near the intersection of 11th and Decatur streets in South Richmond, police said early Sunday.

The victim, whose name has not been released, is in stable condition at VCU Medical Center after undergoing surgery for what police called life-threatening injuries. The suspect, last seen fleeing toward Hull Street, remains at large.

Richmond Police Capt. Paul Kiniry said the shooting appeared to stem from an altercation at a party nearby. The call came into police at 9:50 p.m.

Kiniry said police are searching for a black male, approximately 5-foot-5, 150-pounds. Witnesses said he was wearing a blue shirt with black stripes and blue jeans.

Just to be clear this is Blackwell, not Manchester, as Decatur St is in Blackwell. Can you please re-title the article. Thanks.

    Same diff.

I consider it in Manchester and I think most folks that read H&H would also consider it Manchester. This map based on quite a bit of research has a great breakdown of neighborhoods and it considers Decatur as part of Manchester as well. Of course people living closer will have a different opinion. Where would you place the borders of Blackwell?

I’m President of the neighborhood association in Manchester. Half way through the block between Hull and Decatur is the border. The east side of Hull is the eastern boundary of Manchester. Decatur is within Blackwell.

Very interesting map. Who did that?

A kid got shot. Everything else is irrelevant.

David I’m sticking with my headline for the reasons mentioned, half a block is a fine hair to be cutting.

Mark, yes it is very interesting go here for the full story.

    Clay, you are 100% right.

    1) Is there any update on how the kid is doing?

    2) I live on Decatur and agree with David that most people think of it as Blackwell, irregardless of the historical boundaries/names for the neighborhoods. The only folks who say Decatur St is in “Manchester” are people trying to hide the fact that it’s Blackwell or who think their audience won’t have heard of Blackwell (I sometimes say “Blackwell, which is near Manchester… just across the river from downtown” when I’m talking to north-of-the-river folks). Hull St makes a much more natural border than Stockton. Although some folks use Manchester as a larger, generic term for that whole section of the city.
