RTD candidate endorsements
The end of the election cycle is within sight. RTD came out this morning with their endorsements in the local races.
The 4th District comprises neighborhoods in southwest Richmond. Council president Kathy Graziano has been a stalwart for many years and ought to return. The contest for the district’s representative on the School Board has attracted several outstanding candidates. A receptiveness to progressive alternatives wonVanessa Womack Easter our nod. Rich Savage and Mary Blanchard also boast strong appeal.
The 5th District covers central Richmond on both sides of the river. The council would benefit from the collaborative inclinations of Parker Agelasto. We have not always agreed with Maurice Henderson, but we respect his contributions to the School Board.
The 8th is called Richmond’s South Side District. The Times-Dispatch endorses Dawn Page in her run to switch from the School Board to the City Council and deems Albertina Carter the preferred choice to fill her former seat.

Boo to Maurice Henderson. I guess the TD doesn’t mind Henderson’s blatant disregard of his constituents and his extreme rose colored glasses for RPS and the superintendent.
At a neighborhood meeting Mr. Henderson said RPS had been transformed into a rose garden and now it was his job to maintain it. Lol. My analogy was more to a abandoned lot with broken bottles or perhaps a superfund site. Either way he thinks the system is just fine and is a big fan of universal school choicebecause it a sounds great despite it’s unsustainability. Oh and he opposes charter schools.
I am certain that this is a somewhat ignorant question, but can someone explain why a newspaper endorses anyone in the first place?
This is a pet peave of mine also…newspapers should not endorse anyone, but should just report the facts in an unbiased manner.
The endorsement was from the editors of the editorial page whose jobs are to opine as well as edit.
Some papers endorse, some don’t. In the case of RTD, the endorsements are for the purpose of telling we lesser people how our betters think we should think.
Usually, I can pretty much assume that if the Times-Disgrace likes a candidate then that’s the candidate not to vote for . . . .
