4th District City Council candidate Johnny Walker RTD Op/Ed
Westover Hills resident Johnny Walker is taking on Kathy Graziano for the 4th District City Council seat. The Times-Dispatch invited candidates for Richmond City Council and School Board to tell us why they’re running. They will publish their statements – in no particular order – on the Op/Ed page between now and Election Day. Johnny Walker has his editorial up in today’s paper.
During the past two years I met with the incumbent on problems facing our district and city. It was clear that politics were placed ahead of taking action in the public interest. Taxes on homes, property, restaurants and water bills are out of line with those in surrounding counties. There has been a failure by the incumbent to deal with these issues in her nearly 10 years on City Council. It is my plan to address these concerns as well as our public schools head-on — service over politics.
Well, he’s getting my vote. Kathy Graziano seems far too focused on bigger, more flashy items (Forest Hill debacle) than the nuts and bolts of street repair, zoning issues, snow removal and trash pickup. OK, boring, but these are the things which keep the city moving and working for the citizenry. At least Mr. Walker took the time to walk around my neighborhood, provide information and shake hands. More than Ms Graziano has done since we moved in.
