Forest Hill Park roller coaster
Anybody that has talked to me for more than a few minutes about the history of the area knows I’m fascinated by the old amusement park that once graced Forest Hill Park. The picture above is of the coaster that was called Dip the Dip and was in between the merry-go-round and dance pavilion. That makes today’s feature story The Roving Eye in Style Weekly on Harris H. Stilson all the more exciting. “He was a Richmond trolley car operator who took his camera with him to work from the 1910s to the early 1930s, photographing street scenes across the city and people along his route.” History books are filled with the famous but I’m always more fascinated by the average citizens and day to day events you see captured in the pictures in this article. Later this month over 125 photographs will be available in the book “From a Richmond Streetcar” published by Dietz Press written by Kitty Snow.

This book is going to be a must-have for anyone interested in Richmond History. Kitty Snow is my cousin and I have gotten a sneak peek — very excited that it will be in print soon!
