Drums for Westover Hills Elementary

We’ve done what we can to help out Lindsey Prather who teaches music at both Westover Hills Elementary and Fisher Elementary and now she has a new project that will bring some drums to local students. As an added bonus the Donorschoose board of directors is matching donations to this latest project with the offer code INSPIRE until Oct. 7th. The project was already also eligible for an anonymous matching donation, so every donation goes a looonnggg way toward supporting our local students! You can read some more about the project and get a nice thank you from Lindsey.

We are working a lot at Westover this year to build the culture of our school into a caring and affirming one where everyone has a place and is important. I can’t think of a better way to do that than through drum circles. In a drum circle, no one person is more important than anyone else in the circle, no matter how small their contribution. The special thing about drum circles is not being the most skillful drummer, but about being unafraid to add something to the circle and humble enough to know when you are adding too much! I think this project will really help our students grow as community members, not just as musicians.

A huge thank you to you and all your blog readers for their amazing support so far and in the future! The students have been so grateful for everything, and they are always shocked when I tell them how much the school would have to pay for these resources. They are always so inspired by the kindness of their community and they always have funny ideas about how we should thank everyone (my favorite was “We should take all the donors to King’s Dominion!”)
