Update on Galley in Stratford Hills
Galley is the name of the new restaurant going into Stratford Hills. The forces behind the food are Chris DiLauro (Bacchus) and Manny Mendez (Kuba Kuba) and now Style Weekly fills us in on who is sprucing the place up. The most important information, an opening date is still a mystery. A privileged few (not me) have seen the menu and taps are getting ready to be put in.
For many diners, atmosphere is right up there with food and service as a reason to eat out. One of Richmond’s busiest atmosphere-makers is Jeff Killian, a designer and carpenter getting noticed for his work at Stella’s and the Continental. His newest project is Galley, a casual neighborhood bar and diner owned by Chris DiLauro and Manny Mendez in the former Stratford Grill space at 2805 Hathaway Road.
Killian has installed booths and tables, a decorative metal wall near the window, and an updated but familiar-feeling interior in the once smoke-stained, 50-plus-year-old space. “He’s done an absolutely fantastic job,” DiLauro says of Killian’s finesse, and “he does the whole thing, from design to the build out, really well.”
Can’t wait. And please have some Blue Mountain on tap – my vote for best local brewery.
Dave, have you been out to the Blue Mountain Brewery? Great day trip for great beer and food.
I have and I agree – it’s incredible.
The Stratford Hills Shopping Center is becoming the Restaurant mecca of the South….south Richmond that is. Can’t wait!
So excited to walk up the hill to eat and drink here!
Spoke with the designers last night (after looking through the windows they invited us in) and they hope to open in the next two weeks, hopefully by this weekend (waiting on the city). 12 beers on tap, all Virginia and East Coast beers. A garage door will open up in the front with tables outside too, this place is going to be awesome!
