This summer the Richmond Region Energy Alliance (RREA) is bringing to Richmond the area’s first Home Energy Makeover Contest. One homeowner in the Richmond area will win up to $10,000 in home energy improvements and finally take control of their home energy bills.

The top ten finalists will receive a free home energy assessment (a $350 value) from EarthCraft Virginia, a statewide green building certification nonprofit. EarthCraft Virginia’s mission is to advance sustainable, affordable, resource and energy efficient construction through education and technical support.

Tired of paying too much on your energy bills while still struggling to stay comfortable in your own home? Are there rooms that are so stifling in the summer – or frigid in the winter – that you avoid them? Isn’t it time you enjoyed your home again? Start by entering the Richmond Home Energy Makeover Contest!

The winner will be announced at the end of September, and the improvement work will be scheduled in October in coordination with the homeowner.

WHAT YOU WIN: One lucky Richmond area homeowner will win a Home Energy Makeover valued at up to $10,000. Home energy improvements range from small to large solutions and often include air and duct sealing, HVAC upgrades, insulation, sealing and/or replacing windows and doors, and lighting. With these upgrades, homeowners enjoy lower energy bills, increased comfort and higher home values.

WHO CAN ENTER: Single family homeowners who reside in the City of Richmond, Town of Ashland, and in the counties of Hanover, Chesterfield, Henrico, Goochland, Powhatan, New Kent and Charles City are eligible.

HOW: You enter online. The online entry involves a simple 5-minute home energy evaluation survey that will create a personalized home energy report. You will be asked basic questions about your home (size, heating & cooling, insulation, etc) and asked to submit your name, email address and address.
