Three jobbernowls rescued from the river
Richmond Fire responded to a river rescue at Belle Isle. At around 6:30 PM Tuesday evening, a young woman was reported to be stranded in the river. When 2 others tried to rescue her from the water, they were stranded as well. All 3 were rescued by crews without incident. Stay with 8News for updates.
If you are going to the river check here first and act accordingly. Lifejackets must be worn on the river when the water level is at or above 5 feet (The use of the word jobbernowls might be a little harsh since the river was only at 5.79.) and when the river level is at 9 feet and above, only high water permit holders can be on the river. All boaters are required to wear a life jacket.
We’re going to see this a lot this year. Lotsa drinking and bonfires and loose dogs and Bikers running loose and summer isn’t even here
EVEN THOUGH ALCHOLIC BEVERAGES, BONFIRES, AND LOOSE DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED PEOPLE DON’T THINK THOSE RULES APPLY TO THEM. LIKEWISE WHY SHOULD THEY USE THE TRASH CANS.
@tvnewsbadge: Bikers running loose? Wouldn’t bikers be biking loose? And wouldn’t it be difficult to bike if you weren’t loose?
The point is that an extremely rough crowd has made the scene and are getting more brazen as the days go by.
I went down last week for example to take some sunsets from the Lee Bridge access tower but found my way blocked by two bikers who were using the overlook as a parking place for their hogs as they scanned the River for (in their words) topless women.
A couple of days before that, the fire dept made the scene because youts were setting Bon fires on the rocks
Of course we’re seen the relatively harmless drinking and all but there is definitely a bad element moving in
The campfires bother me less than the trash. I wish there was a way to legitimately get rid of some of the deadfall before it turns into a Belle Isle bonfire.
I encountered 3 young men on motor scooters in Pony Pasture over the weekend, riding the trails. I guess the signs saying “No motorized vehicles” is being ignored freely as well.
I’m sure if we ask nicely the city will form a committee to study the issue. The committee will determine that more money needs to be spent on Parks and Recreation and the city will form a committee to study alternatives to spending money. A follow up committee will determine that the previous two committees approached the situation from the wrong angle and that a commission should formed. Within a year the commission will reform as a coalition at which point they will notice that in the interim someone has actually stolen Belle Isle and replaced it with an Ed Trask mural.
@tvnewsbadge I wouldn’t call the drinking harmless since it seems to frequently result in broken glass, fights, public urination, and drunk driving by those leaving the park. It also appears that much of it is by underage drinkers.
Didn’t even know the word jobbernowls existed. Thanks for the lesson. As for the mutts on the river jobbernowls will be jobbernowls.
Just like the “jobbernowls” that a spoiling other nice places in the city. The race and the age changes, but the results are the same. The unruly kids that nearly killed First Fridays are back. This summer could be a rerun of the last.
Check out the fun times they are having in Church Hill right now.
