Police identify Cowardin shooting victim
Police have identified the man found shot to death before dawn today in South Richmond as Freddie Fields, 46, of no confirmed address.
Richmond police Capt. Yvonne Crowder said officers responded to a 5:18 a.m. call for a man down and found the victim in a vacant lot between a convenience store and a Chinese restaurant in the 400 block of Cowardin Avenue, near the Semmes Avenue intersection.
Fields appeared to have a single gunshot wound to the chest, Crowder said.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help and want to hear from anyone who may have heard something or seen something in that area this morning.
