Asian Galaxy up for a Richmond.com Bestie

The description for Asian Galaxy and the link for voting for the Richmond.com Bestie for Best Takeout;
This little Forest Hill spot is serving a foodie void on the Southside. And we love them for it. Asian Galaxy delivers a tri-fecta of cuisine: Chinese, Thai and Japanese. And we’ve been pleased with all three. Especially the sushi delivered to your door. To your door, people! It’s like we’re living in New York or something.

Voted! It is gonna take everyone on this website to beat An’s Army…Mekong is killing it right now
My roomie and I went there a couple week ago and it wasn’t very good as all. Maybe it was just an off night but neither one of us was very impressed. I plan to give it another try as I really want to like something close by but they have to do better than the last time I went…of course we ate in and didn’t carry out
Asian Galaxy starts with a Japanese tradition, I think, and they do Japanese food very well. Their Thai food is underspiced, well cooked and served, but not with the understanding of Thai seasoning, especially peppers. I have always found the service to be competent and pleasant.
We weren’t that impressed with Asian Galaxy for Chinese or Thai. Ruang Tong in Stratford Hills has the best Thai food!
There’s lots of new, great spots! Yay for RVA! :)
I went there couple months ago and was so disappointed by the food, I am not going back there again. There are couple new Chinese restaurants in the West End area. Peter Chang’s cafe is right next door to the West End Walmart, they have killer Don Don noodles. Across the street from Peter Chang is another new restaurant Asia Garden and they have very good lamb dishes. Should check them out sometimes and I am sure you won’t go back to Asian Galaxy again.
Ashley-thanks for the tip, but those places are both out in the West End. They would have to be incredibly good for me to trek all that way. Plus, I like the sushi at Asian Galaxy.
@Foust -
Peter Chang’s is incredibly good.

I know about Peter Chang–I read the NY’er article a few years ago and I plan to check it out when the excitement dies down. But I’ve always thought of this site as a place for promoting businesses in our neighborhood. And we are most certainly not the West End (thank goodness).
Short version on Peter Chang. Lunch Saturday.
50% absolutely excellent (wife’s lunch)
50% seriously disappointing, poor service, unknowledgable staff, and poor tasteless entre (That would be my choice). SO, while I am not a universal Asian Galaxy fan, at least they haven’t broken my heart the way PC did. And I agree about Richard’s efforts to boost our neighborhoods.
I agree with Foust about promoting neighborhood businesses and the fact that we don’t live in the West End (I would rather stick hot needles in my eyes to be honest). While my first trip to Asian Galaxy left a lot to be desired, I do plan to go back and give it another try. I have also had take out from Mandarin Palace twice…both were very good. I did eat in one night and the food was good. Service was quite poor. I offered my suggestions to the owner on the service issue and plan to go back after a while to see if it’s improved.
As for Chang, I’ve heard reviews much like David’s above. I do plan to give him a try, though. Hopefully after they have had some time to iron out some opening issues almost all restaurants have, they food and service will be consistent.
Any restaurant can have a bad day (or two) and nobody should just write off a restaurant after just one visit (unless it’s just unspeakably horrible). I think we owe it to the restaurants in our neighborhood to try them again and if there are issues, let them be known so improvements can be made…
I’ve got to give a thumbs down on this one. My wife made a takeout call one evening and they got the order wrong. When she politely asked them to correct it, they actually acused her of lying. They lost my business right there. Upon talking to a neighbor it seems that they are consistently understaffed and when the register staff get behind, they get rude. Too bad, because the sushi chef and the waitresses I’ve had have been wonderful. But accusing my wife of lying, too far!
