Rash of car break-ins including a stolen gun
There were 14 thefts from cars yesterday. A large number of the items stolen were left in plain view. Below are the ones I spotted in our area in the daily police report:
What happens if you leave valuables in plain view in your car? If you said the car is broken into you win a prize.
3rd Precinct – THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
2/8/12 – 5:55 p.m. – 6:05 p.m. – 4400 block of Forest Hill Avenue
An unknown person(s) broke into the vehicle and stole a purse, cell phone and credit cards left in plain view.
3rd Precinct -THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
2/8/12 – 1:46 a.m. – 5:46 a.m. – 4000 block of Forest Hill Avenue
An unknown person(s) broke into the vehicle and stole three iPods from the glove box.
This one scares and angers me a bit. Why would some leave a gun in a car? A car even locked is fairly easy to break into and now thanks to someone’s irresponsibility there is another gun on the street.
3rd Precinct – THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
2/7/12 – 2/8/12 – 12:01 a.m. – 6:45 a.m. – 4600 block of Bassett Avenue
An unknown person(s) broke into the vehicle and stole a firearm under the seat.

The last one seems like it was done by someone who knew the gun was there. Maybe thieves who break into cars do take the time to dig around under car seats, but I would think they usually just smash, grab what’s in view, and run.
Yet another reason to love Ashton Square and Somerset Glen…
@Jennifer C.: Agreed.
Ashton Square is just as bad as everywhere else in the H&H area, the fan, the bottom. It’s Richmond. Notice how most of the break-ins were on Forest Hill? Here’s an idea. How about people STOP LEAVING THINGS OUT IN THE OPEN in their car.
Mine were broken into and three more ppl I kno this weekend they r going in and lookn ur stuff does not have to b showing they r lookn forr stereos,and they r going in glove departments.
