Two die on Chippenham

A two-vehicle crash that left two people dead and one seriously injured shut down Chippenham Parkway near Stony Point Fashion Park for hours Saturday.

The crash shortly after 4:30 p.m. halted traffic in both directions as rescue crews worked to extricate the victims and Richmond police investigated.

Police said a vehicle heading north on Chippenham crossed the median and hit a southbound car. The driver and a passenger in the northbound car were killed.

The driver of the southbound car was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The accident backed up traffic in both directions for about a half-mile as drivers funneled into a single lane and exited at the mall.
