Reedy Creek ramp and those it serves

A couple days ago Andy Thompson at Richmond Outside.com posted a story about how the new Reedy Creek put-in was nearing completion. One of the great aspects of this new put in is, it will be handicap accessible. According to the post it will be ready sometime next week. (Update from Phil in the comments – I was told today that the concrete for the ramp is all in place and the takeout ramp now open!) Then today on Friends of the James River Park Facebook they had a link to Girls at Play profiling Sally Wetzler an RVA local who doesn’t let a spinal cord injury keep her from being a river rat. Andy talked to Sally back in November and from there we get the following;
Buzzing around the construction site in her electric wheelchair (a recent wrist surgery kept her out of her manual chair), Wetzler could finally envision the end result.
The emotions it brought up, thinking about the number of people with disabilities who would now have easy access to the freedom and peace of the James, were, understandably, more difficult to explain.
“I’m getting goose bumps,” she said. “It’s hard to describe.”
