Police Asking for Help on Break-ins
Local Lt. Stephen McQuail is asking, is for us to keep an extra vigilant eye out for suspicious activity. The RPD is definitely aware of the speak in break-ins and is working hard in the neighborhood to find the folks committing the crime but the more eyes we have from the neighborhood, the better chance of catching the offenders. Folks need to keep an eye on back and side doors, as well as the alleys. If you are going to be gone over this holiday week let your neighbors know when you’ll be gone so they’ll know to keep an extra special eye out on those dates. If something does not seem right please call right away! The emergency number is 911 and the non emergency number is 646-5100.
Richmond police are investigating a rash of burglaries in the Westover Hills area, including two Saturday morning along New Kent Road.
Investigators said that over two days about 12 break-ins had been reported in the South Richmond neighborhood.
Police said burglars kicked in doors at two houses Saturday, stealing a laptop computer from one and two television sets from the other. The burglars apparently wore gloves because they did not leave fingerprints, police said.
Items taken in other burglaries included cash and jewelry.

After the New Kent break ins yesterday, I called the non emergency number about an unmarked white van driving slowly thru the neighborhood (I was in my car and followed them to get their plate number) and this morning my husband called 911 after following a white car that circled our block then circled another block and finally slowly headed down the alley between Caledonia and King William. It may seem like overkill to do so, but I’d rather have the police stop someone’s lost friend who is circling the area trying to find where to go than not call and have another friend end up being burglarized. Put the non emergency number in your phone and use it.
What type of car was the 2nd one?
I had to call the police after someone was asking me to open my door during the storm last week and would not leave! He was demanding that I open it! Don’t open the door ever to strangers…especially now.
2nd car (this morning) was a white Chevy Impala. In neither case did we see the cars do anything other than slowly circle blocks/alleys, but, in light of the smash and grab crimes recently, seems to be prudent to err on the side of caution and call.
We had a white Chevy Impala (late 90′s maybe) with heavy tint on the windows slowly driving around the block this morning South of Forest Hill on 47th, Dunston, and 46th. I happened to be leaving when they drove by and got the license plate if anyone is interested.
We had a couple guys come and try to sell us window treatment services one night last week around 7pm. They had two others with them standing on the corner. About 10 minutes later I saw two cops talking to the group. Not sure if it’s related to this activity, but they matched the description of the suspects.
Sid, did you call the police? It’s probably the same one my husband saw (the one he called the police about had tinted windows too). We are over near Peterborough many blocks from you. Sounds like the Imapla was scouting houses.
Meg, I didn’t call, he really wasn’t doing anything wrong but made me suspicious. After seeing your post about the white car I knew I should have called.
I heard earlier this morning that another house on Westover Hills Blvd was broke into overnight.
I just spotted (2:00pm on 12/19/11) the white impala with heavy tint on windows driving through the alley between devonshire and sylvan. I called the non-emergency number and reported it. Unfortunately I was inside my house when the car drove slowly down the alley so I did not get a licnse plate number.
2:40pm 12/19/11. Two black men knocked on my neighbor’s door. He called 911. They then knocked on my door and proceeded down the street knocking. At the end of Sylvan, they hopped into a tan pick up truck and left. Police came after they were gone. The police are riding in a white chevy impala with tinted windows!!! They are going through the alleys and streets looking for the tan pick up truck. Neighbor was not able to get license plate number of truck.
Details on tan pickup? Full size, midsize, make model, anything?
Smaller truck. Like a Ford Ranger. Some type of big freezer on back. Another neighbor seems to remember some similar guys going around selling seafood – which may explain the freezer on the back.
