Home Break-ins Continue
Is it enough to call it a crime wave yet? From Westover Hills Neighborhood Association;
5300 New Kent Rd was broken into this morning (12/17/11) between 10:30-11:30 AM (probably closer to 11:30). They entered by kicking in the side door then left through the front door. The only items missing were a laptop and navy blue Lands End laptop bag. The TV was moved down from a shelf but not taken.
A neighbor across the street saw 2 African American men in dark coats walking down the street, knocking on the door of an empty house, 2 doors west of 5300. One was carrying a backpack or bag. The neighbor from 5300 saw 2 men in that backyard when she arrived home.
The police came and took reports from the homeowner and the neighbor who saw these guys. The police said that there had been multiple burglaries in the past day in the area. They did not find prints on the TV or door.
They indicated that the other homes had laptops, jewelry, and cash stolen.

@HillsHeights Getting a little closer than I care for. Not that any of the activity is appreciated.
Tuesday night around 9:30pm someone opened our front storm door and then left. At first I thought I was hearing things then my 2 year old looked said “Daddys home!”. Then I got scared. We were sitting on the sofa. The main door was locked (as were the rest of the doors). It’s almost as if someone heard us inside then left. I was kinda scared about it until I read about this break in literally a few houses down 2 days later. Now I’m petrified! Everyone please please keep an eye out and call the police for absolutely anything that seems out of the ordinary. I am so glad that no one was home and/or injured during this break in!
Times-Dispatch is reporting TWO on New Kent Rd. yesterday and 12 in the last two days in the neighborhood: http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2011/dec/18/tdmet07-police-probe-burglaries-in-westover-hills-ar-1551841/ . Is there any additional info on these other ones? Any response from RPD yet?
Brad, The other one occurred on the 5100 block of New Kent. The home owners both left the home in the morning (in separate cars) and the thieves pulled into their driveway, kicked in a dead bolted door and stole their televisions. It was very brazen as the area where they parked is very exposed and anyone walking or driving by could see them and whatever vehicle they were using.
