October Sector 312 Police Report
The highlights of Lieutenant Stephen E. McQuail (Stephen.McQuail@richmondgov.com) report are below or check out the full report.
This reporting cycle began September 20 and ended on October 17. Our combined violent crime in 312 decreased by 35% as compared to the same cycle in 2010. There were a total of 11 incidents in this cycle. Robberies of individuals were down 38%, and aggravated assaults decreased by 20%. There was a reduction in every general category of violent crime.
There was a homicide in the 300 block of German School Rd. on Octo-ber 22. This was not a random act, and an arrest has been made. Once again, information and help from a concerned community allowed us to act quickly in taking a violent individual off of the streets. This crime occurred two days after the close of this reporting cycle, so it is not reflected in this report, but will be in the October/November report.
There was a 30% decrease in property crimes this time period as com-pared to the same time period in 2010. Our residential burglaries decreased by 7%. There was not one commercial burglary during this time period. There was a 33% reduction in theft from motor vehicles as compared to the same time pe-riod last year. What was very encouraging during this reporting period was the only increases in property crime was an unauthorized us of a motor vehicle. In every other category of property crime, there was either a reduction, or the numbers held the same as compared to last year. Overall, our major crimes reduction was 31%. The year to date comparison at the end of the last cycle showed an 13% reduction.

Many thanks to Lieutenant Stephen E. McQuail and the other officers in our sector who work hard to keep us safe!
Ditto Page. This is great news. Crime rates continue to decrease in Richmond, even when the eoonomy is bad. I believe the community policing strategy begun by RPD a few years back has played a large part in that. Those of us who have lived here a long time can really see the difference. We need to be more vocal about the turnaround. Thank you RPD! And a special thanks to our Sector 312 officers!
