Ejay Rin Says Sayonara

Hot off the presses or rather hot off the Richmond Magazine website we get the news that Ejay Rin is closing down after this Saturday. The restaurant was opened by two well known Richmond Chefs Andy Howell and Bill Foster. Always a bummer to see business leave the area. Hopefully it will be reborn into something awesome.
Howell, previously a partner in Café Rustica, says that he’ll remain as the sole proprietor while Foster moves on. Howell expects to unveil a new name and a new plan in early 2012. Meanwhile, he says he’ll continue serving a deli-style lunch through December, but it won’t be Ejay Rin’s Asian menu.
Foster says the restaurant, which opened in July, just wasn’t drawing the crowds that he and Howell had hoped it would. He says his own plans are still being worked out.
In the same article it mentions the re-opening of Mandarin Palace and some of our readers have already been and give it big thumbs up.

That’s a bummer. I work in Manchester and there are not a lot of places to eat. I really liked the food there. My only complaint is that once I called to order lunch and I got the answering machine. That should never happen.
That is a bummer. It’s a cool building but lightly traveled. Seems like a pretty difficult location to survive in as Savor ultimately discovered as well.
I actually just stopped by there an hour ago to grab a takeout menu. There is a sign on the door that said, ‘sorry we are closed monday (today) and tuesday while we revamp our menu…’ The door was open so I walked in. I could hear people upstairs (contractors maybe) but I didnt speak to anyone… So are they open or closing…?
Ricky you know exactly as much as we know. I’m reading that sign as saying that they will be reopened on Wednesday with a new menu. That is also what is hinted at in the story above. To sum up: Old Ejay Rin closed – New Ejay Rin coming soon.
Matt,
To the best of my knowledge Savor/The Lunch Porter was doing very well. From what I understand the reason they closed focused more around the fact that Justin French’s wife was a business partner and had to pull out. Savor/The Lunch Porter was a favorite of mine and I feel they had a great recipe for success. They had been there for years so it’s not like the location was bad…
[...] Box Tumblr for this scan of the latest menu to come out of the Ejay Rin location. As you know Ejay Rin is dead but will be reborn as Camden’s Dogtown Market. I’m only showing you a bit of the [...]
