Riverside Outfitter Surviving The Economic Rapids

Credit to JRNH for alerting me to the article on WorkIt Richmond that talks with the good folks at Riverside Outfitters about their business and the economy. The good news is that Riverside is doing fine and not going anywhere, so you can all breathe easy. Checkout the full article to understand more about how RO have survived and what they have to offer.

The ongoing economic downturn has affected many small businesses, but Riverside Outfitters has not seen as steep a decline as other retail offerings. Retail sales are down, Perry said, as people delay purchasing new gear: they’re either not willing to spring for the cost of new outdoor equipment, or they’re making the gear they have last that extra season. Other areas, like equipment rentals, rafting and guided tours, are growing, Perry said. This could be due, in part, to people not wanting to spend a large amount of money on traveling or taking an expensive vacation. Some folks are choosing to ‘staycation’ near home and take advantage of more affordable local activities, such as the ones Riverside Outfitters provides, Perry said.
