Volunteers Brave Foul Weather for Patrick Henry
The weather was pretty miserable but 38 volunteers showed up yesterday morning to help fight erosion at Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts. The volunteers were part of the city wide HandsOn Day put together by HandsOn Greater Richmond. In near freezing rain students from VCU planted trees, spread dirt, repaired storm damage and helped fight erosion on the playground. The HandsOn worked until noon and then 10 parents and friends of Patrick Henry arrived and worked until 4:30. The second crew worked on laying bamboo matting that will hold the dirt in place until plants are established. Thanks to all that showed up and the HandsOn organization for a very productive day that will help the Reedy Creek Watershed and move the playground a step closer to completion.
It’s not too late to help out. There is still some bamboo matting (see below) that needs to go down today so folks are gathering at 12 today to try and wrap up this phase of the project.
