5000 Block New Kent Not Closed for Halloween
In a change from recent tradition the 5000 block of New Kent will not be closed this Halloween. In the past it was closed to traffic to allow kids and families free reign on this block, not this year. No word on the reason for the change.[via Westover Hills Neighborhood Association Website]

My guess is that the homeowners on that block were done with being the “go to” spot in the area. Years ago, the majority of the houses on that block were decked out and crazy for Halloween. As the years have passed, either because the houses have changed owners or because owners simply tired of the craziness, the number of over the top houses have decreased and some of the houses last year were totally dark and not even giving out candy.
The city requires the signatures of all the homeowners on the block in order to grant a street-closing permit. This year, some of the homeowners in the 5000 block of New Kent weren’t interested in closing the street, so the neighborhood association could not request the street closure. Hopefully, everyone will watch for cars and be safe tonight!
