“Look Out for Each Other”

  1. Crime prevention begins with you – know your surroundings, what is normal and what is suspicious behavior.
  2. See something suspicious – call 911 or the non emergency police number - 804-646-5100.  And call Immediately. It is better to call in a few mistakes than to have one person become a victim.
  3. Starting the Neighborhood Watch.
    • Need volunteers to become block captains.
    • Need to form a phone tree
    • Walk neighborhood to determine signage locations
  4. Having Meetings/Events/Block Parties/Guest Speakers/Etc
    • Encourages neighbors to get to know each other and their routines
    • Learning new techniques to reduce the risk of crime
    • Address many different issues that concern the community
    • Improving the neighborhood
  5. Learn More: read your NNW Participant’s Handbook
  6. If you see something suspicious – call 911 or the non emergency police number 804-646-5100.  And call Immediately. It is better to call in a few mistakes than to have one person become a victim. yes i know i listed this one twice! :)

So, Those of you who want to become block captains – please let me know – you have to undergo a background check from the RPD.

If you have any ideas of guest speakers – email me or bring them to the next meeting.  From the sounds of it – having someone from the City Public Works come out to address street light outages, bulk trash pick-up, vacant homes, vandalism, etc. might be a start.

I have several “National Neighborhood Watch Participant’s Handbooks” that I can give to those who didn’t make the meeting. Please let me know if you’d like one and I can drop it off at your house/mailbox.

until next time,  “look out for each other”
