Relief Fund For Flooding Victims
The Richmond IWW (Industrial Workers of the World) are raising money for victims of a local trailer park that was flooded earlier this week. On the website it isn’t made clear but after communicating with IWW the recipient of the funds plans to distribute the money among the victims of the flooding. From the IWW website;
One of our Fellow Workers lost his home and many personal effects to a flash flood Tuesday night and so we have setup a relief fund to help him out. If you would like to donate simply click on the “donate” button at the top right-hand corner of this page. This is what unions are all about! Solidarity & Mutual Aid!

The website doesn’t make it clear at all. In fact, it makes it appear as if they’re using this poor fella’s misfortunes as a ploy for donations to the IWW(not that there’s anything wrong with that – I’m not very familiar with the IWW).
Fellow Worker Montigue is a resident of the flooded area and was himself displaced. He is in contact with the three other households who were flood victims. We will be accepting donations until the 11th and then Montigue will see to it that the money is distributed amongst the victims.
The city by the way is blaming the residents for not alerting the city before the flash flood that the drainage system needed maintenance. The only help the residents recieved thusfar is from Red Cross, who has provided hotel rooms. I encourage you to call councilperson jewell and ask him to help these folks.
The have updated the web site to reflect that money donated goes to assist flood victims only.
way to assume the worst JOJO. they are just trying to help they’re friend and his neighbors. What have you done for your friends and neighbors lately? Jeez
JoJo, it would probably be worth your while to study up on the IWW before making accusations. Are there really people who don’t know the IWW? Seriously? High school American History? Wow.
hey jojo, i’m with you. i totally understand wanting to make sure you know where your money is going! it looks like it is going to the right place, so this is a worthwhile donation. i can’t imagine losing everything like that. it’s sad to think that no matter how much we try to help, we’ll never be able to replace all of the personal items they lost. and whether or not they failed to report a problem, how does that justify not helping them? the city should reconsider.
