Farmers’ Market Open Today & A Wine Festival
The most important news is that yes the market will be open. As they said on the Market Umbrella Facebook page, “Stop in for a little post hurricane market. If you have power, restock your freezers. If you don’t, come get dinner…and a hug.”
Souther of the James runs on Wednesdays 3 PM – 8 PM at 4910 Forest Hill Ave (23225). Your list of vendors.
Usually on Wednesday we have our Pick of the Crop feature. Today we are changing it up just a bit and telling you about an event one of the market regulars, Grayhaven Winery is hosting.
Festival!! South African Style!!
You’ve been quaked, rattled, rolled, wind-blown, rained-on, sweaty, chilly, stinky, hungry, cranky, dazed and confused. All of this Nature has been assaulting us and raining on our parades. Well, soon, your household will be back to normal and you will have just a few more weekends to do something fun and culturally stimulating for your family, or just yourself.
Our great winery friends out at Grayhaven are hosting their 6th Annual South African Food and Wine Festival. As you know, Deon has had a stellar Market presence at both of the SOJ markets. Now he extends the invite for all of us to come out to his hill, height and hood.
Not only will there be South African wineries there to share, but the food sounds truly amazing. Whole lamb on a spit, Chicken Peri Peri, Fish and Chips, South African Gelato; a savory and sweet spread that will complement the nectars that we have come to love.
Music, dancing, and drumming. Kids love drumming. And the Zulu music will reel in the big kids. After all the challenging weather, maybe this would be a good day. A good way to start a school year or wind down from a hot grueling summer. More details online. (Story submitted by Trish Morrison)
