H&H Status Update and Power Back On Contest

If you follow me on Twitter (@hillsheights) you’ll know I’m borrowing power and internet from RVA News in the fan. As a result you can only expect one set of stories and updates in the morning until power comes back on. This is also true of approving comments. I will only be able to approve comments in the morning in most cases. If your comment doesn’t show up it’s not because I’m ignoring you it’s because I’m without power.
Read on for news about an exciting contest with glorious prizes (sort of).
Contest
I’ll be providing a prize for the person that correctly guesses the correct time that power comes back on to the 5200 block of King William. The prize has yet to be determined but most likely will be a gift certificate to a local business that has been without power this week. Think a sandwich and a beer not dinner for 12. I picked the 5200 block because that is where I live and I’ll be able to accurately judge the winner. Point of clarification – We are talking about the north side or the side ending in odd numbers for those of us directional challenged.
Bonus prize just added thanks to RVA News – 2 Tickets to UofR home opener 9/10. If the power is not on by then it is likely that I will have gone insane and H&H will cease to exists.
The rules are simple.
- In the comments leave date and time of power return. Example 9/2 at 5:00 p.m.
- Please leave an accurate email when filling out your comments so I can contact you.
- Closest to the actual time will win. Tiebreakers will be decided by a random draw.
- In the event that I am not home when power returns neighbors will be contacted to determine the winning time.
- If you work for Dominion and pick a date later than Friday your entry is null and void. If you work for Dominion and pick today or tomorrow and make sure the power comes on you win a double prize.
- No sabotaging of my electrical lines to make your time a winner.
- Entries awaiting approval will be considered valid as long as the time stamp is before the return of electricity.
I was trying to be optimistic about getting power back on wednesday but I’m gonna have to go with Thursday 11:11am. sigh.
Hmmm… I am probably DQ’d b/c I’m guessing your power is out due to the two trees down in my parents back yard (corner of King William & Prince Arthur)and the pole/transformer that they took with them – unfortunately, I don’t think Dominion has been out to assess yet and can’t get to the pole until the trees are removed, so my best guess is 9/3 by 5pm but thinking it might be more like 9/6 – I hope that I’m wrong!!!
I will be an optimist and say Wednesday at 8:00pm.
Without hope (and no DC United matches for 20 days), we have little left.

@ Stinson – Your entry counts. Nothing in the rules prevents examining the area in detail. You will also notice that nothing in the rules prevents someone from removing trees that may slow up repairs.

Just for clarification, which side of the street are you talking about (North or South). Since the power runs from the alleys one side will inevitaby come back on before the other.
It was horrible in Isabel to see the people across the street with power 4-5 days before we had it. Thankfully the neighbors were kind enough to provide extension cords for a TV so we could watch Survivor while living it!

Reports of power resumption on my block; if confirmed, this places my guess between midnight and 1am.
On 4534 New Kent–Our power came back on at 5:17 pm today (31 Aug)!! Wooohoooo!

Sunday Sept 4th at 2:23 pm. My wife might kill me for this guess as we are on the southside of the 5200 block of King William and she is also on the edge of insanity.
I know I can’t win now (my pick has passed), but I am sure hoping that someone will win very, very soon!!!

Yep power has been achieved. Trying to find the exact time so I can announce a winner. We were at dinner and then Crossroads so missed the exact moment when live returned to some semblance of normalcy.
That was one LONG muthaflippin’ week. congrats to the winner though!
We should just throw a block party with everyone dragging a long extension cord to your front yard and then plug in each of our largest appliances…….and then just dance!!!!! Just a useless thought….
Congrats. Despite 4 days of “restored between 5-11PM” updates from Dominion, at least half of Forest View continues to be dark. Dominion claimed for 4 days that it was because of a downed pole at 49th & Reedy. While there was (and still is) a hell of a mess there, every house around there appeared to have power tonight. Nothing like watching my 90 year old neighbor struggle while the lights from the WH Elementary field (that they leave on all night most of the time) beat down her front window.
