Help Out Our Four Legged Friends

Find out more about Foster Me by reading more.

There are really wonderful shelters and rescue groups in Richmond and the surrounding area, but there are just not enough foster homes for them to be able to save as many animals as they would like. Please consider opening your homes to an animal and saving a life by emptying a cage for another needy animal. Fostering can be a short or long-term commitment, most groups provide medical expenses and a lot provide food and other needed supplies. We are also hoping to make fostering easier for foster families by recruiting people who might not be able to take in a foster animal at this time, but who would be willing to help by taking a foster animal to an adoption stand for a few hours once in a while, or maybe taking in a foster animal temporarily while the foster family is on vacation, or donating a bag of food when someone takes in a litter of puppies or kittens. We’ll even be looking for people who like to sew who might help us making “adopt me” vests for dogs in foster care — there really are ways absolutely anyone who wants to can help. Fostering can be incredibly rewarding — I know how wonderful it feels to walk our foster dog on the trails in Forest Hill Park, watching her snuffle along the ground, happy and exploring, wearing her “adopt me” vest, knowing she may be having the best day of her life because of us.

Fostered animals are more adoptable simply through the socialization and basic manners they learn just by being a part of your daily life, and because you will know them well, it’s easier for the rescues and shelters to match them to the right adoptive home. Please go to www.fosterme.org to find out more about fostering and to sign up to be notified when rescue groups begin posting specific animals in need of fostering on the site, and please like us on Facebook, where we will also be posting animals in need. If you’d like to help us even more, spread the word! You can download and print free flyers promoting foster me. Flyer 1/Flyer 2/Flyer 3
