You might want to reconsider that bagpipe you just purchased. Check out the new noise ordinance here which among other things makes the following illegal.

If you’re in a band, get out of Richmond.
what about if your driving down the street in a residential neighborhood and your cars ‘ bass is up so loud that it shakes all the windows in the house. Does that count. cuz quite frankly that is the only problem we have in our neighborhood.
Why does this not apply to CSX as it blasts it’s horns at all hours of the night, right in my backyard?
That’s the real reason this thing was pushed and passed, linda. fear of the bassmobiles. if you’re gonna have a loud party, just invite the neighbors. they’ll feel included and less inclined to drop a cowardly dime on your noisy @$$ instead of asking you in person to keep it down. Some folks think city life ought to be like living in the west end.
This link worked for me (the posted one did not).
Thanks Jeff. I fixed the post link as well.
No problem. Actually, looking at the linked document, I think the section you posted is from the repealed ordinance, not what was adopted to replace it. The new Sec. 38-31 through -43 starts on page 7 of the PDF.
@ #3: Didn’t you notice those tracks when you bought or rented your abode? CSX had their super-secret invisibility field up that day? Jeeez…
Don’t know about areas but we needed this on Jahnke!
@Matt: if basic civility worked, we wouldn’t need a noise ordinance at all. Occasional parties can certainly be dealt with, but that’s just not reality in many parts of the city. You might be surprised to find that MANY residents just don’t give a rip who they disturb, at what hour, or how many days and nights in a row, with whatever sound they choose to make. As with ALL laws, this one is written for the lowest common denominator jerks who cannot be reasonable.
There is paper work being considered by city council to make the Basset Janke rd area of the train tracks a quiet zone. Call your city rep to get them to pass it.
