Thankfully there are more diligent Outdoor Stewards keeping an eye on things. Keep reading for a round up and you can check out the ones that are most intriguing to you.

New York Times Looks at the James

Ten years ago, bathers in the James River, which wends through this old Southern city, wore ear and nose plugs to stave off infections from sewage runoff. Now, the river is stalked by blue herons and shad — symbols as potent as the belching riverbank ironworks and factories of the unfiltered, blue-collar past. More on [...]

Richmond.com Review of Parkside

I think nearly everyone in the H&H area as already chimed in on Parkside in this post but now Richmond.com has an official review. Overall, we see great things in Parkside Café’s future. Answer to Police Activity on Belle Isle Memorial Day

I read several Tweets and received a couple questions about a bunch (as many as 10 from one report) police cars heading to Belle Isle. Since it happened on the River I knew Phil of James River News Hub would eventually find out the details. The abbreviated version of Phil’s post, is that during or after a river rescue [...]

Ask a Hills and Heighter

Eighth entry in my simple mission to find out more about my neighbors and neighborhood. I plan to ask the same questions to artists, craftspeople, musicians and local business owners. This week we ask questions of Mary Andrews.

Free Fishing Weekend

When I was a kid I would spend hours climbing over rocks and trees, crossing the river 4 or 5 times to find the perfect fishing hole. I don’t think I ever came back with a fish but I do remember having a blast. If you are interested in casting your line, you can do [...]

What a blistering hot weekend this was!! As true to Virginia, we had 3 days of spring and now we will have 5 months of summer. Oh well. Maybe 5 more months of Farmers Market revelry will keep us all happy. This vendor profile features Betty Larrimore (formerly Betty Kelley, prior to recent nuptials). Betty [...]
