Use the Ooze to Save a Tree

An ooze tube in action.

The city could use your help watering new trees. This last winter, the City of Richmond started an aggressive planting program to increase the number of street trees. If you are fortunate enough to have one of these trees planted near your house, please help to take care of it. Giving a new tree a deep watering once a week from May to October will help it thrive.

Fortunately the Enrichmond Foundation has purchased “Ooze Tube” tree watering bags. If your tree has a water bag, just fill it up once a week, and the bag will slowly release water into the soil. If you would like to obtain an Ooze Tube to help water a city tree, please call Mike Mather at 646-6784. There are a limited of water bags which will be given out to citizens to use in watering City Trees. [via Suzette Lyon]
