Police Chase in Forest Hill
I have recieved several reports about up to 14 police cars chasing a suspect on or near 42nd Street towards Forest Hill Park around 4:40 p.m. Anybody know anything more? I’m just starting to check all the news sources.

We live just a couple of blocks away and didn’t hear a thing!
We saw no less than 8 patrol cars headed that way down Reedy. Inquiring minds want to know!
At around 4:20 close to 20 patrol cars, with sirens blaring shot down 43rd toward Forest Hill Ave. Color me curious!
Guess we missed the excitement as we got home around 4:30ish…
I saw a man in a black pickup being followed by about a dozen patrol units. It appeared that he came from Forest Hill Ave. They followed him north on 42nd St., then west onto New Kent. Some of the police cars split off to “head him off at the pass”. From the sounds of the sirens, it seemed like he meandered back towards Forest Hill Ave., and maybe was apprehended.
my husband was home and said 4 cars went flying up Dunston and then one back down and then an undercover car went flying up the road.
Anyone come across anything on the news?
Doesn’t sound too safe in a rather neighborhoody area!
Saw chase down Springhill between 43rd and 42nd, turned down 42nd, and then a few moments later was heading up 43rd to forest hill ave. Must have been 15 or so police cars either chasing or around circling. Tried to find on TD or NBC 12 this am…haven’t seen a thing.
Police apprehended the driver of a dark Dodge Dakota behind the Sylvan apartments at the corner of 41st and Forest Hill between 4:30 and 5:00. Guns drawn, lots of shouting, very stressed out wife in house whose yard abuts that parking lot. Truck was taken away on a wrecker, driver in the paddy wagon.
@ SEW – They were not driving at high speeds, and actually may have been under 25 mph. I didn’t see the police doing anything unsafe.
Thanks for the information Garth. I also have a question into Lt. McQuail to see if he can give anymore details. I haven’t seen anything in the traditional news sources.
thanks for the info, Garth. How about the Police do routine drives through Forest HIll and Woodland Heights regularly to show more presence with hopes to deter criminal activity?!?! just a thought, seems police are only seen in large numbers in these family neighborhoods!
FH Resident:
When I read “flying up Dunston” and “flying up the road” in the post above mine, it lead me to think that were probablu going faster than the speed limit. It’s not really the police I worry about in these situations…it’s the person being chased. Doubtful they have even a part of the dring skills an officer may have.
I’d like to know what the driver of the Dakota did in our area to garner such a show of force.
Somewhat of an update at last night’s FHNA meeting: it began as a routine traffic stop, but the driver did not stop, so additional units were brought in to corral the vehicle in question.
We witnessed one or more RPD patrol cars traveling at high rates of speed (much in excess of the 25 mph) limit up and down Taylor Avenue five or more times during this “routine traffic stop”. So I believe this was more than a “routine stop”. If not, then I question RPD’s pursuit policies in a child-filled residential neighborhood at 4:30 in the afternoon.
