Got Goat?
Okay this is happening across the river but I’m a sucker for loose goat story. JRNH broke the news on a wayward goat that has been seen over the past few years near the Pump House up the hills in the area near the Carillon. Yes you read that right, a goat has been wondering around for years. Not only has it been seen it has also made a meal of one resident’s holly trees. If you do see it and want the City of Richmond to help, contact Animal Control at 646-5573. Rejected Headlines; Who Let the Goat Out?, Horned Horror Destroys Holly, I Goat a Get Out This Place, Goat Crisis 2011, The Nanny of the Carrillon, Goats in the Hood, and Goatageddon.
Update: From the comments on JRNH, it appears this is not breaking news at all. Goats are mentioned in this Richmond Magazine Article and this WikiMapia entry on the Blue Shingles property.

Silly goat, carillons are for kids. (nice alternate headlines there!)
It looks like he has a collar, which, in a way, makes the story better.
I used to see this goat often when crossing the river & people thought I was making it up. A few years ago CBS did a story on it. Apparently a resident in that area bought two goats. One died, one just wanders around.
Ahahahahahah! My wife swears she saw one about two years ago and I have been making fun of her for years about this. I can’t wait to show here this!
I have seen and made a game with my son to see this elusive goat! We have seen him twice on the north bank cliffs among the boulders. As you cross the Powhite bridge, headed north, look to the right. He is more easily seen this time of year when the brush and trees are bare. He is ‘Some Goat’ :)
I’ve seen it on the hill too! On the right in the woods just as you cross the Powhite going north. Everyone thought I was a total nutter…in fact, I thought I saw him with a deer buddy. I figured they had escaped from Maymont. I was so, so wrong.
Now I want to know more about Blue Shingles!
Channel 8 picked up the story: http://goo.gl/QhIZJ
I was very tired when my husband drove across the Powhite Bridge toward the city one winter day a few years ago. I looked up to the right and there was a goat sitting and looking down from high on the hill at the end of the bridge. I could not find the words in time for any of the kids to see it, but thought it was rather funny when I read about it later in a local publication.
I vote against calling animal control upon siting. Our elusive goat is not a nuisance – he’s a mascot!
If Southside is “Dogtown” does that make North side “Goat town?
