Too bad Groupon showed such bad judgment with their Super Bowl ad mocking Tibet. Today (March 10) is Tibet Uprising Day; there’s no way I will throw money at Groupon on a day such as this. Sorry, 43rd St. Gallery.
Eric, I agree with the Super Bowls ads being in poor taste but I think their heart was in the right place. The ads were designed (poorly) to bring attention to the issues and from the Groupon blog you can see that they did raise money for the organizations they were mocking.
“Groupon will contribute matching donations of up to $100,000 for three featured charities – Rainforest Action Network, buildOn, and the Tibet Fund — and Groupon credit of up to $100,000 for contributions made to Greenpeace.”
The ads were definitely tone-deaf, but as Richard pointed out, the company did attempt to atone for its poor judgement. Plus, you’re more likely to be penalizing the gallery than Groupon. But hey, it’s your call–and since the gallery got enough takers to make the coupon work, nobody had to do anything they didn’t want to do.
Well, I tried about 10 times to get this deal. But Groupon, at sign in to my account, would shut Explorer down. I can’t upgrade the browser as I use a work owned computer. They answered my please quickly, but not one offer to assist me in getting the deal. They gave suggestions, which I utilized, and it came down to the browser. Sorry, they said. That was it. I resigned from Groupon.
Ooh such a deal–I signed up immediately!
