Drainage Work Taking Place Near Landria Drive

A reader had a question about the sudden appearance of a bulldozer in his neighborhood. We found out what was going down.

Does anyone know about the construction on Sequoyah Road? Yesterday a crew came in and started working on the side of the road, taking down trees and digging. This morning there is a large bulldozer working there – where the road curves sharply to the right and becomes Landria – and it looks like they are punching through the yards and trees to put Sequoyah Road through to Hathaway. When did this come about?

I sent in the question to Kathy Graziano’s office and found out it is to solve a drainage issue. Once solved this will alleviate stormwater flooding on Landria Drive. The equipment you are seeing is opening the city utility easement, so that a drainage ditch can be constructed to pull stormwater off the shopping center parking lot, down into the existing drainage toward the river. Work is being done by Charles Snead Contracting from Glen Allen.
