Patrick Henry to Represent Virginia in National Forestry Exhibit

Congrats to Patrick Henry for winning this honor. From the PHSSA press release;
Students of Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts (PHSSA), Virginia’s first elementary charter school, have been chosen to present a Forestry Exchange Box that will represent the entire state of the Virginia in a national traveling forestry exhibit. The presentation of the Box, a program of the American Forest Foundation, will be made to state officials including Virginia’s State Forester, Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, and Secretary of Education.

The Forestry Exchange Box is part of Project Learning Tree that encourages teachers and students to take their lessons outdoors and into the woods to experience nature and learn about the importance of forests.

The event on Friday, February 25th will begin at 2 p.m. at Patrick Henry School Building, 3411 Semmes Avenue, and includes a short introduction from Virginia State Forester Carl Garrison, PHSSA student presentations, as well as remarks from Secretary Todd Haymore and Secretary Gerard Robinson.

“The students at PHSSA have put a great deal of hard work and passion into the Forest Exchange Boxes they have created,” said Pamela Boyd, PHSSA principal. “We are honored to be able to present these creations to state officials to show them the amazing natural resources that PHSSA uses in their science lessons as part of their integrated curriculum.”

This nationwide network of environmental educators and students has compiled and decorated a Forest Exchange Box from each state to showcase the unique characteristics of America’s woodlands. These boxes will be displayed at a variety of events across the United States throughout 2011 to celebrate International Year of Forests.
