Wood You Like to be a Tree Steward?

Is helping taking care of trees something you pine for? Now is your chance by signing up to become a Tree Steward. Classes will be held every Tuesday from February 15 through May 7, from 6:30-8:30PM, at the Round House in Byrd Park. There also are three Saturday hands-on planting and pruning sessions, March 12, April 16 and May 7 from 9AM-noon.

Class topics include tree biology and identification, selecting planting sites and the right trees, planting and care, health, proper pruning, and planning the urban forest. Classes will be taught by area professionals in our tree care industry. The deadline for mail-in registration is February 10, 2011.

There is a $75 registration fee for city residents and 20 hours of community service in a 6 month time frame are required to become a certified Tree Steward.
