Lost Bowl Comes to Chestervale
A little out of our territory over by the VA Hospital in the Chestervale neighborhood but it’s still Southside and way back in the day I rocked my Talking Heads shirt and rode a Lance Mountain “future primitive”.

That’s a neat video to watch – someone definitely engineered that properly, from the looks of it.
I still vote the city uses the abandoned tennis courts over by Westover Hills School as a skate park.
The sad thing is the tennis courts you mention look like they’ve been renovated within the last couple of years. I wonder what would get them used more?
There are 2 sets of courts. One set has been renovated. We use them with our kids. There is another set that are full of weeds and were not renovated. I had lived in this neighborhood for a few years before I even realized the renovated courts were there.
They are not easily seen from the main roads, and the parking area behind the shops on WH Blvd feels very isolated and desolate. Probably why they might not get much use.
We have never seen another soul there on the weekends – which makes it a perfect place to practice w/the kids b/c their balls tend to go all over, and if (when) they get bored, they can run around like maniacs tossing balls at each other while my husband and I play on the next court.
@Page – there are (I believe) three newer, usable-for-tennis courts at Westover Hills, and six ripe-for-skate-park courts.
Edit: it’s actually 4 & 6. If you pull up the google maps for the school, the newer ones are blue. It’s apparently outside my technical skills at the moment to post a link :)
Sweet Pat.
I can’t wait for the next video, surely to happen soon: Moped Thunderdome.
I didn’t know about those six courts either. It would be interesting to see some research on the skateboard idea. For instance, who/how many peole would use it? How much would the park cost, and how would it be funded? Is there an “adopting” group such as the Friends groups that would take up the advocacy for skateboard facility?
