Lunch Date With The Future at Patrick Henry
Recently there was a formal luncheon held at Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts. Lunch Date With the Future is a program brought from Chesterfield by 4th & 5th grade teacher Kelly Elias to help students with manners and other life skills not addressed in your typical classroom. Chris Dovi and Richmond Magazine.com took a look at this unique lunch.
The journey to this luncheon began in the classroom, Elias says, with instruction in tying ties, posture, manners and even conversational etiquette.
“Never talk about money, age or weight,” says Tariq Achorzyad, 9, resplendent in a blue tie, sharp white shirt and blazer and speaking with the authority of Miss Manners herself.
It’s good advice he’s learned well enough to offer without hesitation, and just one gem among many mined by Elias among this group of city kids, many of whom had never heard of a salad fork before August when school began.

That’s awesome!!!
I witnessed, first hand, the kids as they were learning how to tie a necktie. They were thrilled to be learning such an “adult thing”. This article hits it right on, all of the kids are walking taller. And now the school has adopted the Safety Patrol and many of Mrs. Elias’s kids are in that great teaching program also. Way to go PHSSA!
