More Details Emerge on Malone/PHSSA Board Dispute
UPDATE: We were alerted at 4:15 pm that Reggie Malone has resigned so tonight’s Board of Director’s meeting in which a vote was to be held to remove him, has been canceled.
_______
It looks like the picture that Patrick Henry School Board Vice-President Reggie Malone painted earlier this week was leaving out a few crucial details. Once again Chris Dovi and Richmond Magazine.com have the scoop on what is alleged to be going on behind the scenes. While Reggie Malone was accusing the board of improper financial procedures he was also asking that same board for a blank check in emails that were anonymously turned over to Richmond Magazine today.
Malone begins with an off-handed request for a “blank signed check,” with the promise that “I’ll make it payable to the vendor and put the amount in place.” In that e-mail, dated July 25, he does not say who the check will be made out to, stating only that it is to pay for multiple copies of a report on the environment quality of the school’s Woodland Heights Baptist Church facility.
Malone also requested copies of the school’s bank statements for the previous 12 months, and he insisted that those statements not exclude account numbers.
When the request was denied by then-treasurer, Susan Martin and president at the time, Deb Butterworth, Malone is alleged to have sent another email.
I will invite the media to our meeting on Wednesday along with some of the parents,” he writes. “I’m going to demonstrate to the public and parents that even this school board has problems also.”
And Malone makes clear he is prepared to take his complaints to the next level: “I’m now beginning to see a pattern here that I didn’t see before,” he writes. “I’m not going to attribute it to race just yet.”
Malone did not return calls for comment.
Please head to the link for full details. The Patrick Henry School board is expected to vote this evening to remove Mr. Malone as Vice President.

Good work, Richard, on getting this post up promptly, and good work by Chris Dovi in telling this story. The people who have worked so hard at PH don’t desrve to be the victim of innuendo and threats.
Mr. Malone should be ashamed of himself! He was on the RPS school board for a number of years – I wonder if he was a “plant” by RPS to wreak havoc on Patrick Henry.
The man apparently needed to go. Very unprofessional behavior.
I received a check from Patrick Henry to reimburse me for items bought and it required the necessary authorization and 2 signatures on the check. I did not however request a blank check, and expect to be able to fill in the amount myself, with no oversight or authorization.
At least Patrick Henry can now move forward and fill the seat with someone who have a positive influence on the board and who can conduct themselves professionally. It is a shame that he felt it necessary to attack and defame (even discounting professional credentials) of the very people who have worked so hard to make this school happen.
