Westover Hills East Has Attempted Car Break-in
From Elizabeth Roderick, Crimewatch Captain for Westover Hills
On Sunday, Oct. 10 around 7:30pm at Cedar Lane and Sylvan Rd., while sitting on my neighbor’s deck having dinner, I observed a black male attempt to break into my car. He was riding a bike and had a large backpack. We screamed at him and he took off down Stonewall Ave. 911 was called. The Richmond City Police responded within 5 minutes, obtained a better description and proceeded with back-up throughout Westover and Forest Hill. The suspect was spotted on the other side of Forest Hill, a foot chase ensued during which the backpack and bike were discarded. The suspect was apprehended on Westover Hills Blvd. My neighbor and I were able to identify him and he was arrested with numerous charges. The backpack was being searched and the bike is being checked on. This just goes to show how important it is to be on alert and take immediate action.

Now that sounds like really good stuff to me!
excellent . Maybe it was my bike that was stolen 2 weeks ago!
Great Job! Your neighbors thank you for preventing future break ins by this same suspect in the neighborhood.
Thank you for taking action and being a good citizen. We all appreciate that.
Very glad he was caught, now let’s see if the courts do more than just slap his wrist
Good – hopefully this will help cut down on the petty theft in the area. Just to clarify, Cedar and Sylvan is east of Westover Hills Blvd, not WHW.
The police were on the scene asap. Excellent job by Officer Gibson and his partner who had to apprehend the suspect in a foot chase. It helped that so many folks were outside and were able to tell the police which way the suspect was headed. I look forward to testifying in court along with my neighbor.
MH thanks, headline fixed.
Way to go Elizabeth!
Linda, you might want to check with the police to see if it was your bike. Maybe it might lead to additional charges and a bigger conviction.
Thanks Elizabeth for posting this info so fast and for all of the comments. Here’s to hoping that this arrest and the one Monday night has put a dent in our recent crime spree!
