Goldman Upset at Hathcock Email
An aide to Richmond City Council President Kathy C. Graziano sparked a rebuke from longtime political figure Paul Goldman today after accidentally sending an e-mail to Goldman that referred to him as “a blithering, blathering idiot.”
David Hathcock, Graziano’s council liaison for the past five years, acknowledged sending the e-mail but said he didn’t mean for it to go to Goldman.
Needless to say Goldman, former candidate for mayor and City Council and a policy adviser in Wilder’s mayoral administration, which he resigned after being suspended for doing consulting work, was not pleased.
Goldman fired off a response to City Council members, aides to Mayor Dwight C. Jones and reporters asking whether it was appropriate for a city employee to make a personal attack during work hours from his city e-mail address. In an interview, Goldman said he wasn’t seeking an apology and had no opinion on whether Hathcock should be disciplined.

Has Goldman denied the allegation?
No but I suspect that Goldman also told his mommy and the principal.
Oops.
;-)
Paul who? Doug Who?
I disagree with you, Richard. I think David Hathcock has a responsibility to act professionally.
If he had accidentally sent a similarly insulting email to a taxpayer, would your response be a joke about mommies and principals? He is the gatekeeper for the City Council President, and he needs to behave as such. You should expect more from him.
And as for email: The bottom line is, don’t ever send something in email that you wouldn’t say to someone’s face. This type of mistake is all too common, Chris Dovi got fired for a similar gaffe at Richmond Magazine recently, right?
Actually, Paul Goldman is a taxpayer!
I am not arguing whether the email was professional or not. If I had received the same email I would have acted like an adult and responded directly to Mr. Hathcock and his boss Mrs. Graziano. To send an email to the press, the mayor and other city council members to me is a desperate cry for attention.
Chris Dovi was fired from Style Weekly and I think that was a great injustice. He is a great reporter and his firing over a poorly worded email was a waste of talent. Chris Dovi is now doing work for Richmond Magazine including a column The 408.
“In an interview, Goldman said he wasn’t seeking an apology and had no opinion on whether Hathcock should be disciplined.” OK… then why make such a stink about it? Actions speak louder than words, Mr. Goldman.
