Where is This?
Since I had two requests for another one and I aim to please, where in the Hills and Heights area was this captured?

Hmmm….
Where the books live…?
O’tooles?
Do you mean, “where was this?” I would love to know the name of that font.
It’s not O’Tooles, that’s the 47 or 4800 block of FHA. I’m going to guess that office building on Westover Hills, between the Wallgreens & the Dollar General.
It’s the Westover Hills Branch of the Richmond Public Library…1408 Westover Hills BLvd.
Clay, i actually was trying to identify that font for you at http://www.myfonts.com but didn’t find it. what did they do with the old letters? I’d love to have some of those.
Find out when the branch was built and look for popular fonts from that era.
As most have figured out it was taken of the Westover Hills Library. I didn’t realize they had taken them down. I too like the shape of those letters and it would be a real shame if they were just tossed.
Thanks for looking, Page. I have come close, but no exact match. There are at least three RPL branches that use the same style letters. Belmont (1956), Westover Hills (1959), and Ginter Park (1964), are the ones that come to mind. I believe there is an office building on Lakeside Avenue that has the same tile as well. Budina and Freeman was the architecture firm used for Westover Hills. All of the 2×2 tiles on the front of the building will be replaced with color variations that will produce a higher contrast with the letters. The letters were to either be repaired and reused or replicated as closely as possible. Thanks for posting the image.
By the way, for anyone that is interested there are some images that were taken this morning of the ongoing work at the branch that are posted on the WHL section of the RPL website. We certainly miss seeing everyone at the library.
