Neighborhood Dog Walks
6 Comments »In response to the robberies, Phil Licking of the FHNA suggest the following;
Dear Neighbors:
The idea is quite simple. Do your best to take a walk every evening with your pup. Try and go at the same time each night, preferably after dark. There’s no “scheduled” time for the walk, in fact our presence out there is enhanced if some people walk at 8:00, some at 9:00, some at 10:00, etc. Just pick a time that works for you and try to stick to it.
Find friends and neighbors who might like to join you. In addition to the requisite leash and poop bag, be sure to carry your cell phone and a flashlight. (I also like to carry a cool beverage… in a to-go cup, of course ;-)
You’ll be amazed at how little time it takes, how many folks you’ll meet, and how much it will help to deter crime in our neighborhood.
I’ll be out tonight at 9:30. Looking forward to seeing some folks…

Great idea Phil. Present our presence.
Love it, and already do it in Stratford Hills. As a woman I prefer to vary my walk time just to avoid having a predictable time when my dog is out of the house every day.
It might not be wise, however to walk you dog the SAME time very night.
Security experts advise to vary your routine so that thugs and perps cannot target you as an individual by observing your pattern and laying in wait for you.
Much better to vary both the time of day and the route, and limit walks to daylight hours only.

Good plan. Am amazed at how quiet the streets of Woodland Heights are in the evenings. Took a 10pm patrol ride last night around 29-32nd streets for kicks on the way home…..not a creature was stirring….
This actually sounds like a bad idea.
