Patrick Henry Looking for Bus Help
The RTD has an article this morning about Patrick Henry School looking to the School Board to help with busing students after a proposed plan with the Back to Bottom Bus fell through. There are about 22 students that need transportation.
Though the School Board didn’t discuss the issue at last night’s regular meeting and took no action on Patrick Henry’s request, one parent said that if the school system provides out-of-zone transportation for Patrick Henry students, the same should be done for all students attending out-of-zone schools.

I’m a parent of two out-of-zone students (not at PH, though) and I’d be perfectly willing to pay an annual fee to have bus service. I doubt I’d be the only one, either. Maybe RPS could use us “wealthy” out-of-zone parents to help subsidize less-able families’ bus service. It shouldn’t be that hard to do it based on income.
I’m always surprised, too, that the schools don’t use passenger vans, when appropriate, for smaller runs. Back when they provided transportation to out of zone kids, there were stories of near empty buses going across town.
Better still some parents with nice SUV’s can form a van pool that will go into the less advantaged neighborhoods and give the kids a lift.
In addition to the public service angle these parents would help insure that PHS isn’t tainted with the kind of headlines we’ve being seeing lately where kids are being left on the public alternative.
