Huguenot Bridge Closed Friday-Monday
Phase 1 of the city’s plan to isolate the Southbank goes into effect on Friday with the closing of the Huguenot Bridge for “inspection”. The bridge will be closed Friday at 7:30 a.m. and not re-open until late Monday night, or Tuesday morning. If the other bridges are suddenly shut down for “accidents” or “security reasons” or some other such nonsense then I’ll be truly worried. If you are not a fan of my foil hat conspiracy theories you can read the full story on NBC 12. Or check out the video after the break

That bridge is super dangerous, don’t they have a plan to completely demolish and rebuild it? I thought that would have started by now.
Construction is supposed to start this fall. VDOT has a nice site with info and even a mailing list you can sign up for for updates.

Wow, nice:
“The new structure will have one 12 foot lane and one 10 foot shoulder in each direction. The 10 foot shoulder will function as both an emergency lane and a lane to allow bicyclists to safely use the bridge. In addition, there will be a five foot wide sidewalk on each side for pedestrians.”
Thanks for the link, Tom!
I’m really looking forward to there being a nice way to cross the river on a bicycle.
That’s a heck of a detour, though…
If this weather holds we’ll be able to cross the river by bicycle without using a bridge.
But look, we are isolated on this side with the market…there are worse things.
