The Rodeo is Coming!

Stand by for the rodeo, coming to Forest Hill Park July 18th.

This is a rodeo that won’t have any bucking broncs or bull riding, however.

It’s a rodeo sponsored by the Richmond Police Department, RA-MORE off roads bike enthusiasts, and several local businesses, and it is designed to teach young people, and first time bike riders, bicycle safety and bicycle riding skills.

The rodeo is a new part of Sunday in the Park with Friends, the annual event scheduled for the lawn at Forest Hill Park. The bike rodeo will be held in the parking lot at shelter #2, the site of the South of the James Market. Officer Stacy Rogers, the bike patrol officer in the parks, is planning the event. He plans to donate as many as 200 bike helmets, provide bicycle inspections and safety checks, and to use several bike courses to teach rider skills and safety.

Each participant will have to bring his or her own bike, and should be at the shelter not later than noon on July 18th. The rodeo is for children 5-12 years, and written parental permission is necessary.
