Looking for a Wild Bird Expert
Question came in from a reader;
We have two baby doves in our holly tree…one has died (in the nest) and the other is there by himself. No sign of the mom. Are there any bird experts in the neighborhood who you know?
Anybody have any advice.

Contact The Wildlife Center of Virginia:
http://www.wildlifecenter.org/
Click on ‘I need rescue help’ where you can find basic baby bird info.
Another more local option is the Area Rehabbers Klub (ARK)
http://www.arkofva.org/
Typically with ARK, you have to leave a message and wait for a call back, as they do not work from a centralized location.
ARK is definitely the way to go. I called them last year regarding an injured dove and the closest wildlife rehabilitator was over in Powhatan, so you would need to take the baby there. Hotline number is 804-598-8380.
i took an injured bird to Maymont years ago and they tried to help it.
Maymont can’t help. Called there a while ago, but can only take permanently injured animals from rehabbers. They sent me to ARK.
