Copper Thieves Hit Westover Hills

I came out of my house today on the 5000 block of Caledonia to see a pile of copper downspouts on the sidewalk. As I was in the process of calling the police, a man came over picked them up and said they were his. He said he was waiting for a ride. He starting walking down Westover Hills blvd and then turned west down New Kent. The pastor from WHUMC saw the incident (he also called the police) and followed the gentleman. The man ditched the downspouts in a back yard on New Kent (I think) and then the suspect ran off down Evelyn Byrd. Because I had my 3 children with me, I did not feel comfortable staying for the police but I did hear police cars in the neighborhood. I don’t know if they caught the man but presumably the police at least recovered the copper from where it was ditched. So – check your downspouts and if you are missing some – call the police as they may have recovered them today.
