Dear Families of Student Applicants,
Because PHSSA student applications exceeded capacity for the 2010-11 school year in all grade levels, a lottery will be conducted. The student lottery for the class of 2010-11 is open to the public and will take place at the school on Thursday, March 11th at 7:00 pm. Attendance is not required to confirm selection of a lottery spot in the school. All applicants and families, regardless of whether they attend the lottery event or not, will be notified via U.S. postal mail of their official acceptance into the school or where their student falls on the waiting list.
The planned classes for the 2010-2011 school year will be:
K – 3 classes
1st – 2 classes
2nd – 2 classes
3rd – 1 class
4th/5th combined
The exact number of students per class is not verified yet, but the total count will be approximately 150 students. Students who are not selected for a spot will be placed on a waiting list, and where they fall on the waiting list will be determined by lottery selection as well.
Students are welcome to attend the lottery event on March 11th, although the event has the potential of lasting up to 2 hours. The lottery numbers will be selected beginning with Grade 5 and ending with Kindergarten. More details of admissions and enrollment procedures will be available at the lottery and on the PHSSA website next week.
Please be aware that this is a public event and there will be media in attendance. If you are interested in doing interviews with the press and sharing your views on PHSSA and educational opportunities in Richmond, please contact Kristen Larson at kristen.larson@patrickhenry.charter.org so that you can be added to the interview list.

Interesting and somewhat disturbing.
I would think that anyone who attends would be free to share their thoughts with the media on their own.
Could someone please clarify?
I don’t read that as an attempt to vet who can speak, just a way to identify folks that might want to.
yeah, and letting people know that it’s not a private event and that they might be approached. Some people aren’t anxious to talk to the press.
Just to clarify, yes, anyone can speak to the press, and the PHSSA hopes that anyone who has an opinion to offer does voice it. I am collecting names of families who want to offer their opinions on the record, so that I can find them not only at the lottery event, but also before or after that night, if we get those media requests.
In addition, there may be some families that don’t want to share their opinions with the media, so have a list of willing families, streamlines the process.
If you have any other questions/concerns, please contact me. Thanks.
I think it’s fantastic that the school has so many applicants!
You think that’s something, check out the panic trying to get into Mary Munford via lottery today.
These high end schools are certainly in demand, no question.
